Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010What are your thoughts on Jezebel vs Elijah, as told in the Bible?
Here’s my thoughts: It would have played out differently if it were written by say, the Phoenicians (Jezebel’s people). I think it’s biased, to a large degree. Some details seem slightly fabricated, other aspects of the story were probably true. She probably did kill some of Yaweh’s prophets, not a good thing, sure. It also says Elijah killed about as many of her god’s prophets, though. So, why is Elijah the good guy in the story? Could it be that Queen Jezebel was a strong woman, and a follower of a different religion, 2 things that the writers of the Bible frowned upon? If you read it from a different p.o.v., would it be easier to read between the lines?
I don’t much care if I’ve gotten emails saying “your name on here is proof you’re going to hell” Just makes me laugh. But she’s my girl- I love queen Jezebel, so I’m a bit curious, if anyone else who’s read the bible before sees it how I see it. I just find history interesting…

It’s essentially a power struggle between two competing religions.
Elijah’s god is a jealous god, and doesn’t want any competition.
Jezebel’s response is to kill YHWHs prophets.
She was definitely a strong woman, like Livia wife of Augustus, mother of Tiberius. She ruled her kingdom first through her husband, then through her children.
